PREDECESSORS AND SHORT
HISTORY: The parent state was founded in
1733 by Meherban Raja Trimbakrao I [Appasaheb] Patwardhan
(see Kurundwad-Snr),
and represents the senior most line amongst the
Patwardhans. The state later split into Senior and Junior
lines on 5th April 1854, with Meherban Shrimant
Raghunathrao continuing the Senior Line and his three
younger brothers ruling jointly in Kurundwad Junior. The
youngest brother died without issue, and the descendants
of the two middle brothers continued to rule jointly till
1947. Till the date of merger, Ganptai Utsav was
celebrated throughout the State, even in mosques. At the
time of Merger, the State handed over to the Indian Union,
just under rupees one million in cash, in addition to the
state lands and state buildings. It is interesting to note
that Kurundwad is the only line which is without any
adoptions. The Chiefs of Kurundwad Junior maintain a
military force of 12 cavalry, 306 infantry, and 1 gun (as

Shrimant GANPATRAO I HARIHARRAO [BAPUSAHEB]
PATWARDHAN, Joint Raja of Kurundwad Junior
1854/1899, born 1837/1839, he succeeded to the gadi on 5th April
1854 (#1),
he performed the first Land survey of the State in
1877; he also passed an order allowing people of any
caste or creed, the right to enter any temple for
Darshan (this credit is normally given to Rajarishi
Maharaja Shahu of Kolhapur); he was the first Indian
Ruler to be asked by the British to Rule two States at
the same time, namely, his own and that of the State
of Ramdurg; married 1stly, 1855, Rani Saraswatibai
[Yogabai], born 1843, died 1858, daughter of Bajirao
II Peshwa, the last Prime Minister of the Maratha
Kingdom, married 2ndly, a daughter of Mr. Mujumdar,
died young, married 3rdly, a daughter of Mr. Chitale,
and had issue. He died 1899.

Shrimant MADHAVRAO GANPATRAO [BHAUSAHEB] PATWARDHAN,
Joint Raja of Kurundwad Junior 1899/1931, born 6th
December 1875 and succeeded 29th July 1899 (#2), married Rani Seetabai
Paranjape, and had issue, one son only. He died 1931.

GANPATRAO II MADHAVRAO [BAPUSAHEB] PATWARDHAN,
Joint Raja of Kurundwad Junior 1931/1942, born 1899;
married Rani Ramabai, died 1944, daughter of Mr. Jog,
and had issue, two sons and two daughters. He died 9th
November 1942.

November 2009.

the Rajasaheb). She died 2003

Mr. Balkrishna alias Bhausaheb Sulakhe, of Barshi,
and had issue, two sons and two daughters.

1942/2007, born 1922; Hon. A.D.C. to the 1st President
of India, recipient of the Independence Medal,
Hereditary recipient of King George V Silver Jubilee
and also King George VI Coronation Medals; married
1943, Akhand Soubhagyavati Shrimant Rani
Sudakshinadevi Patwardhan, daughter of Kashinath
Khanvilkar of Mumbai, born 1926, died 22nd September
2005, and had issue, four daughters and one son. He
died 19th February 2007 at Belgaum aged 85 years.
- Rajkumari Urmilaraje Patwardhan, born 21st April
1944, married a Mr. Deshmukh.
- Rajkumari Indumatiraje Patwardhan, born 9th May
1947, married a Mr. Booty.
- Rajkumari Mangalaraje Patwardhan, born 15th
October 1948, married a Mr. Gogate.

Shrimant VINAYAKRAO HARIHARRAO [NANASAHEB]
PATWARDHAN, Joint Raja of Kurundwad Junior
1911/1932, born 27th March 1877, married Rani
Gangabai, daughter of Mr. Lagu, and had issue, one
daughter. He died 1932.
- Rajkumari Malatibai, born 189x, married Shrimant
Vinayakrao Peshwe, descendant of the Peshwas of
Poona. She died 1923.

1934/2004, born 1923, married Rani Ushadevi Govindrao
Madgavkar, a previously married lady with two sons,
and as a result, this marriage was not recognized by
the Government of India, and had issue, one son and
one daughter. He died 1st December 2004 in Bangalore.
