PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The founder, Sandhu, appears to have originally been a Rajput, but during the 13th century, he emigrated from Ghazni in Afghanistan to the Manjha, where he settled with his family. Changa, thirteenth in descent from Sandhu, was an influential Chaudhury, and founded the village of Padhana some 39 kilometres south-east of Lahore, in the reign of Padhsah Akbar (1556/1605). Dibawas, a grandson of Changa, committed a murder and the office of Chaudhury was taken from him. It wasn't till the time of Sukha Singh, that the family recovered some power and prestige. - Sardar Mith Singh, Jagirdar of Padhana 1803/1814, he entered the service of Sardar Mahan Singh Sukerchakia, from whom he received an estate worth 12,000Rs, he then followed Maharaja Ranjit Singh, taking part in the occupation of Lahore in 1799, and distinguished himself in the Kasur (1807) and Kashmir (1814) expeditions, fir which he was richly rewarded; married and had issue, one son and two daughters. He was killed in action in 1814.

Jagirdar of Padhana 1814/1835, he was confirmed in his
father's estates and received more besides, he was a brave and
able soldier, he took part in the Maharaja's Malwa campaign of
1807 and was present at the capture of Multan in 1818, and
distinguished himself at Kashmir in 1819 and Mankera in 1821,
he was struck by paralysis in 1829 and was unable to take part
in any further action, he married the elder sister of Maharani
Jind Kaur, and had issue. He died 1835.

- Sardar Hardit Singh, Jagirdar of Padhana 1835/1849 and Head of Family 1849/1860, after his father's death a large portion of the jagir was resumed, leaving only Rs27,425 subject to the provision of 100 horse, but after annexation he was only allowed to retain a jagir worth Rs9,000 for his maintenance, married and had issue. He died 1860.

- Sardar Bahadur Sardar Jiwan Singh O.B.E., Head of Family 1897/1933, a Civil Judge and an Honorary Magistrate with jurisdiction over the whole of Lahore district for 35 years; he was granted the title of Sardar Bahadur in 1915, and was awarded the order of O.B.E. in 1923; a Vice-Chairman of the Lahore District Board; married and had issue. He died 1933.
