PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY:
A 5th Class State situated in the Vatrak Kantha district
of the former Mahi Kantha (now in Gujarat). It has an area
of 10,000 bighas of land under tillage (1881). The
founding chiefs were originally from Sind, who held Patri,
when Alauddin (1297) came to Gujarat. Driven from Patri
they took refuge with the Raja of Chamapaner, who gave
them a grant of Bariya in jagir. From there, one of the
family in the time Mahmud Begada (1459/1518), came into
possession of Sathamba. The seat of the Thakore Saheb is
at Sathamba, the chief town of the state. They are
tributary chiefs, paying the Gaekwad Maharaja Rs 401 p.a.
as ghasdana, the
Nawab of Balasinor Rs 561 p.a. as jamabandi and the
Raja of Lunawada Rs 127 as giras hak. The family holds no sanad of
adoption and in matters of succession it follows the rule
of primogeniture. Rulers were....

Sathamba 1867/1895, born 1844, succeeded 1867 (#1).
- Thakore Saheb VIJAYSINHJI, Thakore Saheb of
Sathamba 1895/1918, born 1863, died 1918.
- Thakore Saheb RATANSINHJI, Thakore Saheb of
Sathamba 1918/1941, born 11th May 1900, succeeded 17th
May 1919, the administrative system was revamped
during his reign. He founded a hospital, library and
schools which exist even today. Founder of one of the
first farmers' co-operative organizations in 1923.
This farmer co-operative exists to this day and is
very successful in its mission of upliftment of rural
peasants of the region, married and had issue, four
sons.

- Kumar Shri Mulsinhji Ratansinhji, educated at
Rajkumar College, Rajkot (1948); married and had
issue.
- Kunwar Vanrajsinhji Mulsinhji , married, Kumari
Kalpana, daughter of Thakursa Devi Singhji
Raghuraj Singhji of Sarangi, and his wife,
Thakurani Prem Kanwar of Badnawar in Dhar
District.
- Kumar Shri Lakshmansinhji Ratansinhji, educated at
Rajkumar College, Rajkot (1949).
- Kumar Shri Bahadursinhji Ratansinhji, educated at
Rajkumar College, Rajkot (1950).
- Thakore Saheb SURSINHJI RATANSINHJI, Thakore
Saheb of Sathamba 1934/- , born 26th September 1920 (#2 p.357), he
succeeded to the gadi on 28th December 1934 (#2 p.357), he was
granted ruling powers in 1941, ruler till the merger
into the Indian Union in 1948, educated at Rajkumar
College, Rajkot.
