PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY:
Sahaspur
was the largest Zamindari in Moradabad and Badaun districts of Uttar
Pradesh.
An ancestor, Prithvi Singh, went along with the Lodi kings when they
were
at Sambhal, Moradabad district, and after their defeat in 1526 at
Panipat,
by the Moghul Emperor, Babur, they settled quietly in Punjab. They kept
in touch with Badaun and Katehr (old name of Moradabad) and at the
insistence
of Rao Pahar Singh Gaur, a relative, came back at the end of
Aurangzeb's
reign to recieve the title of 'Rai' and were made 'Chakladars'
of
Bijnor District in 1713. Raja Jagat Kumar Singh died in 1934, leaving a
widow and young daughter (mother of the present Raja), and as per
family
custom and law, Raja Chandra Vijay Singh, succeeded to the title of
Raja
at birth. His father's family is from Bilaspur
State (founded about 880AD). About 200 years ago an ancestor (the
younger
brother of Raja Udai Chand) was exiled from Bilaspur, and whose family
ultimately found their way to serve as hereditary Prime Ministers of
Bahawalpur
(Pakistan), till the grandfather of the present Raja preferred service
in the Indian Civil Service (1894 batch) and his father served the army
being commissioned from Sandhurst in 1927 (#1).

Zamindar of Sahaspur, on the cession of Rohilkhand, he was chakladar of Bijnor,
and subsequently he entered the service of the
British Government, married and had issue.

Rai PRADHUMAN KISHAN
SINGH, Zamindar of Sahaspur -/1880, born 1839, he
rendered good services during the Mutiny of 1857-58, assisting the
British officers who had taken refuge at Nainital by sending them
money and information, for these services he was rewarded with a grant
of estates; married and had
issue. He died 1880.

KRISHNA KUMAR SINGH, Rai of Sahaspur 1910/-, born 25th December
1848, he was granted the
title of Raja as a personal distinction on 24th May 1882; he received a
Medal of Honour at the Imperial Assemblage
of Delhi on 1st January 1877, on the occasion of the Proclamation of
Her
Most Gracious Majesty as Empress of India; and a khilat at the Agra
Darbar of 10th February 1879; married and had issue.

Raja of Sahaspur -/1934, born 1912, married Rani Pritam Kunwar, born
1916, died 1972, daughter of Baba Ujagar Singh Bedi of Kallar,
K.C.I.E., (now in Pakistan), who
was
14th in descent from Guru Nanak, founder of the Sikh faith, and had
issue.
He died in 1934.

Chand, (son of Raja Tek Chand Bahadur, K.C.I.O., he was the 1st I.C.S.
officer and was also awarded the Imperial Star), and had
issue. She died 26th September 2005.
