PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The
estate
was founded in 1499 by Sakhi Salamat, a Persian nobleman,
who, with his family settled in the area, and were made
Governors of Orissa by Suleiman Shah and Daud Shah in
1573. Estate holders were....

1st Zamindar of Prithimpassa 1499/-, married and had
issue.
- Nawab Ismail Khan Lodhi (qv)
- Nawab ISMAIL KHAN
LODHI, 2nd Zamindar of Prithimpassa, he was
granted the titles of Khan-e-Jahan Khan and Amir-ul-Amara,
and also received a Jagir from the Mughal Emperor,
Padshah Akbar; Governor of Orissa (confirmed in 1573);
married and had issue.

MUHAMMAD, 3rd Zamindar of Prithimpassa
1624/1682, married and had issue. He died in 1682.

RABI KHAN, 4th Zamindar of Prithimpassa
1682/-, he was tutor of the children of Nawab Nazim
Sarfraz Khan of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, and was
granted a sanad for jagirs from him and Nazim Mir
Muhammed Qasim Ali Khan Bahadur Nasirat Jang, and also
from the Mughal Emperor, Padshah Alamgir II; he also
was granted the title of Danishmandi from the Nazim of
Bengal; the area of Moulvi Bazar in present day Sylhet
district in Bangladesh is named after him (then known
as Rabir Bazar); married and had issue.

ALI KHAN, 5th Zamindar of Prithimpassa, he
served as the Assistant Qazi of Sylhet in 1773 and
then Qazi of Taraf; he crushed the rebellion of Naga
and Koki tribes for which he was awarded further
Jagirs (which were made hereditary in 1819) and honors
from the British Government; married and had issue.
- Nawab GAUS ALI KHAN,
6th Zamindar of Prithimpassa, he sided with the
Mutineers during the First Indian War of Independence
(Sepoy Mutiny of 1857) and sheltered 300 sepoys who
had looted the Chittagong Treasury; married and had
issue.

AHMED KHAN, 7th Zamindar of Prithimpassa
-/1874, born 1840; he assisted the British Forces in
the Battle of Loshai in 1869; married and had issue.

AMJED KHAN, 8th Zamindar of Prithimpassa
1874/1905, born in November 1871, he established the
Rungicherra Tea Estate and the Ali Amjad Girls' High
School, Member of the Aligarh University Committee, he
was recognized as an Honorary Magistrate by the
British, married and had issue. He died in November
1905.

ALI HAIDER KHAN, 9th Zamindar of Prithimpassa
1905/1963, born in February 1900, he established the
library of Prithimpassa Estate in 1921; he served as
Minister of Agriculture in the cabinet of Sir Syed
Muhammad Sadullah, Minister of Power and Water
Development in the Bardalai's cabinet 1942/1946, and
leader of the Independent Muslim Party; in 1945, he
led his party into an alliance with Assam Congress and
its coalition partners; after partition he continued
in politics as leader of the Muslim League and
contested elections; married Nawabzadi Syeda Husne Ara
Begum, daughter of Ihtishamul-Mulk Raisuddaula
Amir-ul-Omrah Nawab Asif Quadar Sir Syed Wasif Ali
Mirza Khan Bahadur Mahabat Jang of Murshidabad, and
had issue. He died 30th June 1963.
- Nawabzada Ali Safdar Khan Raja Saheb, born 1917,
he was a leader in Ballisara peasant movement of the
1960's, and in 1971, he led the liberation war as
commander of his regiment from the Tripura borders.
He died 16th July 1974 at Dhaka.
- Sahebzadi Sayed-un-nessa Begum, born 1923 in
Calcutta, married 1stly, Prince Wahid Ali Mirza of
Oudh, married 2ndly, Syed Amanat Hossain, a Barah
Syed, and superintendent of Special Police
Department controlled by the Federal Government in
Islamabad and in charge of East Pakistan, and had
issue. She died 6th December 1999.
- Sahebzada Asif Ali Mirza, great grandson
of Shahzada Qamar Qadr and great greatson of
Padshah Wajid Ali Shah, the ruler of the Royal
House of Awadh.

KHAN, 10th Zamindar of Prithimpassa
1963/1984, born 1903, he served as M.L.C. elected from
the Muslim League, married a daughter of
Ihtishamul-Mulk Raisuddaula Amir-ul-Omrah Nawab Asif
Quadar Sir Syed Wasif Ali Mirza Khan Bahadur Mahabat
Jang of Murshidabad,
and had issue. He died in May 1984.
- Nawabzada Ali Yeawar Khan, born 1925, he was
elected as member of the Provincial Assembly from
1958 to 1968, died 2003.

ALI SARWAR KHAN, 11th Zamindar of
Prithimpassa 1984/1995, born 15th May 1924 at Sylhet
House in Calcutta, he was elected as member of the
Provincial Assembly, which later became the
Constituent Assembly following the independence of
Bangladesh, on 9th December 1970, he contested the
election again in 1973 and was elected Member of
Parliament in a landslide victory, married and had
issue. He died 21st July 1995 in Dhaka.
