Kingdom
of Utkala (Orissa) founded in remote (legendary)
antiquity, annexed by
Bangala (Bengal) in 1568, incorporated into the Mughal
Empire in 1576,
and Khurda state was established; its rulers styled kings
of Utkala
(Orissa)
1580/1609, under Mahratta suzerainty 1751/1803, state
annexed to
British
India in 1871. Rulers were.......

RAMACHENDRA
DEVA I, Raja of Khurda
1578 or 1592/1607 or 1587/1616, son of
Danai
Bidyadhar, Prime Minister of the Bhoj King; appointed
mansubadar of
3,500
horse
by the Mughal Emperor Akbar, he was granted Khurda,
Puri and others in
jagir and the right to rule over 129 killas
of Orissa; married and had issue. He died 1607.

- Raja NARASIMHA DEVA,
Raja of Khurda 1622/1645 or 1628/1653, during his
reign, a Muslim General invaded Orissa and the Raja
was forced to pay a large sum of money to buy off the
General, in order to secure peace. He died 1645.

Raja of Khurda 1645/1655 or 1654/1662, married and had
issue.

Raja of Khurda 1655/1690 or 1651/1686 or 1662/1690,
married and had
issue. He
died 1690 at Jajpur.

Raja of Khurda 1732/1743 or 1725/1736, he was forcibly
converted to Islam
under the name of Hafiz Qadar Muhammed, he married
(amongst others), a
daughter of Nawab Murshid
Quli
Khan II, Nawab Nazim of Orissa, and had issue. He died
1742/1743.

Raja of Khurda bef 1751/1780 or 1736/1773, during his
reign, Habib Khan, a Muslim General in the service of
the Marathas, invaded this province but restored it
afterwards, the Marathas finally took the province in
1753; married and had issue. He died 1780.

had issue. He died 1795.

Raja of Khurda 1795/1808 or 1791/1810, in 1803, the
British occupied Orissa and expelled the Marathas;
later he rebelled
against the
British Authorities in 1804 and his territory was
confiscated, he received a
pension
in compensation, he rebelled again in 1817 and was
imprisoned, he was
the
last king of Khurda and after him his successor came
to be known as the
Raja of Puri, the title
of Raja being
only
personal and he depended on a political pension. He
died 30th November
1817.
