Nawab
Abdul Gaffor Mohammed Khan, a descendant of the Tajak Khel
tribe of Afghanistan. After the battle of Mehidpur he
received the territories of Tal, Sanjit, Malhargarh,
Mandawal, Barawda and Jaora in 1808.These all then came
under the state of Jaora after recognition from th British
government through the treaty of Mandsaur on the 6th of

1818/1825, born 11th April 1775 at Rampur, son of
Abdul Hamid Khan (son of Abdul Majid Khan); he
received the titles of Nawab and Iftakhar-ud-daula in
1808 and the state of Jaora in 1818 through the treaty
of Mandsaur; married 1stly, 1795 at Rampur, Nawab
Musharraf Jahan Begum Sahiba, daughter of Nawab
Akhwand Mohammed Ayaz of Tonk, married 2ndly at Jaora,
Aulia Begum Sahiba, daughter of Mirza Karim Yar Khan
Mughal of Jaora, and had issue, one son and five
daughters. He died 9th September 1825 at Jaora and was
buried at the old Royal Cemetery, Jaora.

Mautashim-ud-daula Nawab GHAUS MOHAMMED KHAN Bahadur
Shaukat Jung, 2nd Nawab of 1825/1865, born 1823
at Jaora, succeeded to the gaddi on the death
of his father in 1825, educated at Jaora and Indore
under the guidance of Col. Borthok, the superintendent
of Jaora state and Political agent of Malwa; received
full ruling powers in 1840, he was granted the title
of His Highness and a permanent gun salute of 13 guns
in November 1859 by the Governor General, Lord
Kenning; he received a gold plated rifle from the
Governor General of India in 1862 as well as sanad (No. XCI),
guaranteeing succession to the state, according to
Muhammedan Law, in the event of failure of natural
heirs; married 1stly, 1837, HH Nawab Auliya Begum
Sahiba, died May 1865, daughter of HH Wazir-ud-daula
Nawab Haafiz Mohammed Wazeer Khan Bahadur, the Nawab
of Tonk, married 2ndly,
1844, Shaukat Zamani Begum Sahiba, niece of Khan Ali
Khan (see above), married 3rdly, 1850, Faheem-un-nisa
Begum Sahiba, daughter of Kamaal Khan of Jaora, and
had issue, one son and three daughters. He died 29th
April 1865 and was buried at (Laal Makbara) Jaora.

Ihtasham-ud-daula Nawab MOHAMMED ISMAIL KHAN Bahadur
Firoz Jung, 3rd Nawab of Jaora 1865/1895, born
1855, he succeeded his father at the age of 10 on 30th
April 1865 (#1)
and received full ruling powers in 1874 from Col. Sir
Henry Daly; educated at Jaora and Indore under the
guidance ofMr.Wilson appointed by Col. Mayo, the then
political agent of Malwa; he received the Prince of
Wales medal and the K.I.H. Gold medal in 1877;
appointed to the rank of Major in 1881, he constructed
the Roza of Hussain Tekri in 1886; in 1865 he received
permission from the Government of India to adopt the
titles of Ihtasham
ud-daula and Firoz Jung as a personal
distinction; married 1stly, 1872, HH Nawab Mahal Begum
Sahiba, married 2ndly, 1873, HH Nawab Dulhan Begum
Sahiba, married 3rdly, 1876, Taj Mahal Begum Sahiba,
also married secondary wives, (a), Huran Bai, (b),
Karima Bai, (c), Hurmat Bai, and had issue, eight sons
and ten daughters; married and had issue. He died 5th
March 1895 in Jaora and was buried in (Laal Makbara)
Jaora.
- Khan Bahadur Nawabzada Sher Ali Khan, born 17th
October 1873 (son of HH Nawab Mahal Begum), educated
at Daly College, Indore; he served as Commandant,
Jaora State forces; he was granted the title of Khan
Bahadur in June 1912, in recognition of his services
to Jaora State as Civil Judge and in other
capacities; married Sahibzadi Mahak Begum, sister of
Sahibzada Mashook Ali Khan of Jaora, and had issue,
one daughter. He died 2nd May 1941 in Jaora.

Khan, son of Sardar Mir Hafizuddeen Ahmed Khan of

Muntazim Bahadur, born 9th September 1903 at the
Nawab Palace, Surat, married 9th June 1931,
Humayun Sultan Jaha Begum Sahiba, daughter of
Lt.-Col HH Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan Bahadur Nawab
of Jaora (see below), migrated to Pakistan in
1947, and had issue, two sons and one daughter.
He died 1966 in Manila, Philippines and was
buried there.
- Khan Bahadur Sarfaraz Ali Khan (son of Taj Mahal
Begum), born 4th July 1876 in Jaora, educated at
Daly College, Indore; he served as private secretary
to HH Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan of Jaora; Vice
President of the State Council and Chief Minister of
Jaora State. He died 11th February 1945.
- Nawabzadi Muazzam Sultan Jahan Begum (daughter of
Taj Mahal Begum), born 18th June 1879 in Jaora,
married 1stly, Sahibzada Khan Ali Khan of Jaora,
married 2ndly, Nawab Ghulam Jilani Bijli Khan, Nawab
of Wai. She died 12th January 1930.

Karima Bai), born 19th April 1880 in Jaora, married
and had issue, one son. He died 6th December 1939.

Fakhrud-Daulah Nawab Sir MUHAMMED IFTIKHAR ALI KHAN
Sahib Bahadur Saulat-e-Jang G.B.E., K.C.I.E.,
4th Nawab of Jaora 1895/1947, born 17th January 1883 (#2), educated at Daly College,
Indore and with the Imperial Cadet Corps, Dehradun, he
succeeded his father at the age of 12 in 1895 and
reigned under the regency of Sahibzada Yar Mohammed
Khan, he received full ruling powers in 1906;
appointed as Captain in the British Army in 1908 and
promoted to Major in 1911, took part in WW1 serving
with the Expeditionary Force in 1914 and was later
promoted to Lt.-Col. in 1921; he received Star,
British War and Allied Victory Medals, he was awarded
the Delhi Durbar Medals in 1903 and 1911, the Silver
Jubilee Medal in 1935, the Jubilee Medal in 1935, the
Coronation Medal in 1937, and the Indian Independence
Medal in 1947; member of the Standing Committee of the
Chamber of Princes; member of the Royal Automobile
Club; K.C.I.E. [cr.1911] (#3);
a skilled hunter and collector of world renowned
kennels; married 1stly, 8th March 1903, HH
Iftikhar-uz-zamani Begum Sahiba, died 1918, daughter
of Khan Bahadur Yar Muhammed Khan, C.S.I., married
2ndly, 15th May 1914, Mumtaz Mahal Begum Sahiba,
married 3rdly, 5th May 1921, Sultan Dulhan Begum
Sahiba, also married secondary wives, (a), Imtiaz

private secretary to HH Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan of
Jaora; Revenue and Finance minister, State of Jaora;
he was declared as Heir Apparent by his father in
1935 but was derecognised by the British government
in 1942 because he was an illegitimate son and
according to Islamic law he could not succeed his
father in preference to a legitimate or an adopted
son; he was expelled from Jaora State in 1943 after
being accused of inciting riots; married 1stly (div.
1939), 19th December 1930 and in June 1931, Begum
Molly Ali Khan [n�e Mollie Elsip], born 1910,
married 2ndly, 29th May 1942 (div. 4th December
1942), Begum Safia Sultan, married 3rdly, 19th
January 1943, Imtiaz Dulhan, and had issue, two sons
and one daughter by his first wife. He died 27th
August 1945.

Indore; he succeeded his father on 18th December 1947,
and merged his state with Madhya Bharat Union on 15th
June 1948; married 1stly, 28th May 1940 at Yar Manzil
Palace (div'd. 1st February 1942), Safia Sultan Begum,
daughter of Mirza Zaman Beg, married 2ndly, January
1944 at Macchi Bhavan Palace, Shehnaz Begum, he
adopted Rajkumar Jafri Raashid Ahmed Khan Bahadur from
Pehersar with the consent of his twin brother HH Nawab
Murtuza Ali Khan in 1956. He died sp 9th November
1972 in Jaora, and was buried at Hussain Tekri, Jaora.

Bahadur Saulat-e-jung (Photo), 6th
Nawab of Jaora [9.11.1972] -[19.12.1999], born 4th
July 1916 in Jaora; educated at Daly College, Indore
and at the Prince of Wales Royal Military College,
Dehradun, he succeeded his twin brother as Head of the
Jaora Princely Family on 11th November 1972. He died
unmarried 19th December 1999 (or 11th November 1999)
in Jaora and was buried at Hussain Tekri, Jaora.

Ajmer; married 1stly, HH Mohtarma Shahar-Ara Begum, a
Mughal lady from Jaora, married 2ndly, Sahibzadi
Sohail Ara Begum, elder daughter of the Nawabzada
Safdar Ali Khan, styled Nawab Sahab of Basoda, and his wife,
Nawabzadi Mukarram Jaha Begum Sahiba of Jaora (see
above), married 3rdly, Sahibzadi Mohtarma Sitara
Jibeen, youngest daughter of the Nawabzada Safdar Ali
Khan, styled Nawab Sahab of Basoda, and his wife,
Nawabzadi Mukarram Jaha Begum Sahiba of Jaora (see
above), married 4thly, 1978, Sahibzadi Mohtarma Ahmedi
Begum, a Pathan lady, and had issue, one son and four
daughters. He died 7th October 2008.
