PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: An
ancestor of Budh Singh, was Bhara Mall (His Origins), who lived in Gujranwala
district and had been initiated into the Sikh faith by the
Seventh Guru, Guru Har Rai 1644/1661. This misl's
territory in 1759 was Kunja, Ladhe Wala Waraich, Ramnagar,
Eminabad, Sodhra, Qila Didar Singh, Rohtas, parts of
Pothohar and their capital, Gujranwala. Members were...
- Sardar Naudh Singh,
1st Misldhar of the Sukerchakia misl 1748/1752,
married (amongst others) in 1720, Sardarni Lali Kaur,
daughter of Sardar Gulab Singh of Majitha, and had
issue, four sons. He was killed in an attack on Bhatto
village in 1752 (#1).

- Sardar Charat Singh,
2nd Misldhar of the Sukerchakia misl 1752/1774, born
about 1721, he distinguished himself at an early age
in campaigns against Ahmad Shah Abdali and split from
the Singhpuria Misl to establish the Sukerchakia Misl
in Gujranwala in 1752, he attacked and plundered
Eminabad, then captured Wazirabad, and in 1761 at
Sialkot put the Afghans there to flight, he sacked
Kassur in April 1763 and again engaged the Afghans at
Sialkot in November 1763; married 1756, Sardarni Desan
Kaur Gujranwala, died 1778, daughter of Sardar Amir
Singh of Faizalpuria
misl, and had issue. He was fatally wounded in a
skirmish with the Bhangi misl in 1774 by the bursting
of his own matchlock.

- Sardar Mahan Singh,
3rd Misldhar of the Sukerchakia misl 1774/1792, born
1759, he built a fortress which he named Garhi Mahan
Singh within the walled town of Gujranwala and
increased the number of horsemen to 6,000, he then
captured Rasulnagar from the Chatthas, and took Pindi
Bhattian, Sahiwal, 'Isakhel and Jhang, in 1782, he
sacked Jammu and came away with much booty, married
1stly, 1774, Sardarni Raj Kaur, a daughter of Raja
Gajpat Singh of Jind,
married 2ndly, Bibiji Mai Kaur, daughter of Jai Singh
Mann of Mogalchak, and
had issue. He died 1792.
- Sardar Ranjit Singh,
4th Misldhar of the Sukerchakia misl 1792/1799, he
succeeded to a sizeable estate in northwestern Punjab,
inheriting a band of intrepid horse and matchlockmen,
and an ambition that knew no bounds, initially his
step-mother, was able to keep the misl together until
he attained his majority. Subsequent history is that
of Lahore (qv).
