PRESENT HEAD OF HOUSE: Sardar
Sadashiv Rao Mahadik, a First class Sardar of
the Gwalior State and present Head of the Sardar Mahadik
family of Gwalior since 1967
born on 13th August 1937 in Gwalior; educated at Arya
Samaj School, at Misshills School, at Scindia School and
passed his 10th standard in 1954, he then studied at
Victoria College, graduating with a B.Com. in 1959, he
then completed his education at New York University in
1959 with a M.B.A., he briefly worked in America as an
export manager of the American East India Company, before
returning to India in 1961; he then worked for Century
Mills at their head office in Bombay; he became the first
chief secretary to the Maharaja Scindia at Gwalior;
appointed Director of K.B. Bank of Scindia and later as
the Vice-Governor of the Reserve Bank of India; he
resigned after the death of his father in order to look
after the family properties; married 1961, Shrimant
Kanchan Mala Mahagonker [Sardarni Girjadevi Mahadik]; and
has issue, one son and one daughter.

- Kunwar Yashwant Rao Sadashiv Rao Mahadik, married
to Shrimant Vrushalidevi Gaekwad, daughter of Shrimant
Rajendrasinh Gaekwad, and his wife, Gayatridevi
Gaekwad, from the prominent family of Archit Rao
Gaekwad of Baroda, and has issue, two children.

PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The
Sardar Mahadik Family of the Gwalior state, is amongst one
of the notable blue blooded princely maratha family with
honors of morchal and masnad, also known as panchkuli
maratha family of India. Their blood line is derived from
the Sisodia Rajput clan. Founded by Shrimant Yashwant Rao
Mahadik, he migrated to Gwalior from the Deccan along with
Maharaja Mahadji Rao Scindia as one of his most trusted
adherent and companion. The Sardar Mahadik family of
Gwalior have been the Sardars, Jagidars and loyal
chieftains of the Maharaja Scindia Family (rulers of the
Gwalior State) for the longest time. Mahadiks are a branch
of migrated Rajput rulers of Chittor of Rajputana. The
Mahadik's were the chieftains and Sardars with the
sultanates of Deccan. Later, they served the Maratha
Empire and are related to the kings of Gwalior, Satara,
Kolhapur and Nagpur's Bhosale branches and also several
prominent Maratha families such as the Rane Family of
Sankli in Goa.
- Sardar Yashwant Rao Mahadik, founder of the
Mahadik family in Gwalior, he came to Gwalior from the
Deccan with Maharaja Mahadji Rao Scindia and was
appointed officer in charge of 1,200 cavalry, in about
1762, he was granted the title of Sardar as a jagir
and was Mahadik of Gwalior State and was honoured with
a seat on the right hand side in the Durbar of the
Maharaja of Gwalior; he was later killed in a battle
at Ramghur in 1788.

- Sardar Jan Rao Mahadik, he succeeded his
father in all his rights and privileges; he travelled
to the Deccan with Maharaja Mahadji Rao Scindia to
converse with the Peshwa; after Maharaja Madhaji
Scidia died, he retired and returned to the Deccan and
lived there in his village Ninam near Satara, where he
died; married and had adoptive issue. He died 1854.

- Sardar Kethroji Rao Mahadik, he succeeded his
brother after his retirement
- Sardar Hanumant Rao Mahadik, born 1816, he
succeeded his brother (and uncle by adoption); married
and had issue. He died 1886.
- Sardar Daulat Rao Mahadik (qv)
- Sardar Daulat Rao Mahadik, born 1860 in Ninam
village in Satara, on his accession to the Sardarship
he was presented with a pearl necklace and a sarpaitch
by HH the Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior; he was said to
be very religious, conscientious, upright and just in
all his dealings with his fellow men and the residents
of his jagir in Dightan (in the Dhar District of
M.P.); married 1stly, Shrimant (name unknown)
Bhosle of Tirodkar, married 2ndly, Shrimant (name
unknown) Ghorpade (Mudholkar), married 3rdly,
Shrimant (name unknown) Gadkar (Gadjendra),
married 4thly, a daughter of Bayaji Chor (Gwalior);
married 5thly, and had issue, one son and one
daughter.

Sardar Krishnarao Daulatrao Mahadik, born 12th
June 1902 in Gwalior; educated at The Sardar School in
Gwalior and at Mayo College, Ajmer; after completing
his education, he was assigned to be the collector of
Guna in Gwalior state, appointed the General Manager
of Gwalior power house and later served in the Gwalior
and British army in Artillery section after training
as Lieutenant colonel; during merger of Gwalior state
into the union of India, he became Commerce,
Industries and Communications Minister of Gwalior
State; as Finance Minister he went to America for
negotiation with the President and took part in the
princely conference representing the Maharaja of
Gwalior during the merger; author of Economic
Planning for Gwalior, married Shrimant Sardarni
Gunwantabai Mahadik, younger sister of HH Maharani
Gajraraje Scindia of Gwalior,
daughters of Rao Rana Shrimant Satrojirao Vithalrao
Rane [Bala Sahib], Sar Desai of Sankli, in Goa, and
had issue, one son and five daughters. He died by his
own hand in 1967 at Bombay, and was cremated at Gol
Pahadia (the official Chattri of Sardar Mahadik).
