PREDECESSORS AND SHORT
HISTORY: Founded before 1549. Baraundha (or
Pathar Kachhar) was a petty sanad state of about 218
square miles. Formerly it was much larger, comprising most
of the present Banda district of U.P., the family having
held the country for at least 400 years. The name Pathar
Kachhar was derived from its position on the skirts of the
Vindhayas. The ruling family claimed to be an old one and
to belong to the Raghuvansi clan of the solar division of
Rajputs. The original seat of the family was in Rasin in
Banda district, originally called Raja Vasini, where there
are many old remains. The early history is, however, very
obscure. During Bundela supremacy, the state appears to
have been held on a sanad from Hirdeshah of Panna. On the
accession of British to paramount power, Raja Mokhamsingh
was recognised and confirmed in his territory by a sanad
granted in 1807. In 1893, the Raja Bahadur was allowed to
maintain a military force of 15 cavalry, 75 infantry and 6

- Kunwar Sarabjit Singh, he was adopted by his
uncle, Thakur Mokham Singh, and succeeded him as
Thakur Sarabjit Singh of Baraundha (see below).

SINGH [Mohan Singh], Thakur of Baraundha
1790/1827, he obtained a sanad from the British
Government in 1807, he adopted his nephew, Kunwar
Sarabjit Singh, as his successor. He died sp
on 4th January 1827.

RAGHUBIR DAYAL SINGH, Thakur of Baraundha
1874/1886, born 1840, he ruled partly at Paturkuchar
and partly at Baraundha, he was granted the title of
Raja Bahadur on the occasion of the Imperial
Assemblage at Delhi on 1st January 1877, as a personal
distinction, he adopted Kunwar Pratap Singh, a distant
relative as his successor. He died sp in 1886.

PRATAP SINGH, Thakur of Baraundha 1886/1930,
born 1847, succeeded to the gadi on 18th August 1886 (#1),
married and had issue. He died 1930.

the succession because of his part in the resistance
movement.

SINGH, Raja of Baraundha 1930/1933, born 1865
and succeeded on 9th July 1909 (#2),
he adopted Kunwar Ram Pratap Singh, a descendant of
Kunwar Kurudutt Singh of Kuluwan. He died sp
in 1933.
